What is a dwell in eye-tracking? How can I pause dwell? How can I click faster or slower with my eyes?
Dwell is the most common method to click with your eye-gaze. Your eyes need to stay still on one point for an amount of time set (=dwell time) and then the click action will happen.
Set up your ideal Dwell time
Dwell time is the time you need to look at an icon or button to click on it with eye gaze.
Set it up: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch > Toggel Dwell control ON (at the bottom of the page) > Set up the time
- Recommendation: 1 second
Pause the Dwell
If you ever need to take a break from clicking, such as when reading a page or exploring a new app, you can temporarily disable the click function. Simply use the "Pause Dwell" action on the Assistive Touch menu to do this..
Add the action in the Assistive Touch menu:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch > Customize Top Level menu > Click on one icon > Select from the drop-down menu action depending on the level of your eye-gaze experience:
- Beginner: Pause/Resume Dwell
- Independent user: Dwell. Dwell action opens the second level menu, where you can find Pause/Resume Dwell and other actions.
You have also an option to select Dwell. Dwell action opens the second level menu, where you can find Pause/Resume Dwell and other actions.
Check the video on how to edit the Assistive touch menu:
Select "Resume Dwell" from the same icon on the AssistiveTouch menu to resume clicking again.
TIP: Add Pause/Resume Dwell action to one of your hot corners! Check here how to set up hot corners.
Keep in mind that whenever you want to stop working with eye gaze, it is useful to first pause the Dwell before leaving the track box.
