Early Stage User Profile (Windows)
In this section, we provide a recommended setup for the Early Stage User profile.
Hardware
Before you begin, make sure your hardware is properly set up by connecting your Hiru camera according to the instructions provided here.
Software
There are several software options available for use, with the most popular choices among our early stage users being:
- Easy Click for learning how to access the computer with eye gaze
- Mind Express 5 for learning the basics of communication, access, environmental control, education, games, and learning activities
- Grid 3 for learning the basics of communication, access, and fun games
- Inclusive games - games for learning eye gaze technics

➡️ Easy Click
Easy Click is an intuitive computer control software developed by Irisbond, designed specifically for beginners to learn how to navigate their screens using eye gaze. With Easy Click, users can access a variety of inclusive games, making the initial experience of using eye gaze technology both enjoyable and educational.

Do not forget to customize your calibration target with a picture that you love! This personalization will make the calibration process more enjoyable and engaging.

Mind Express 5 is not only a robust tool for experienced eye gaze users but also an excellent starting point for beginners. This software allows users to explore the fundamentals of communication, engage in games, read books, and harness the capabilities of eye gaze technology.
💡Recommendation for Early stage user:
Page set: Maxim Eyes 2, Steps to Language, SCORE 400 page sets
For those just starting, we recommend using the Maxim Eyes page set, which is designed for games and educational activities. For communication, we suggest exploring the various page sets available within the Steps to Language framework or the well-known SCORE 400.
⚙️ Menu > Settings > Access > Eye tracking
Eye monitor settings:
- Camera image: Camera image
Calibration settings
- Calibration point: Sun (Animation) or any other animation point
- Calibration: 3 or 5 points
- Speed: Average or slow
- Manual calibration: Yes, if the user has a problem with regular calibration
Select: Dwell selection
- Dwell time: 0,7 s (for cause and effect activities or visual simulation)
- *Dwell time: 1,2 s (for the beginning of communication)
- Dwell indicator: Shrinking dot
- Color: Same color as the color of the visual indicator
Indicator options:
- Visual indicator: Border (extra wide)
- Color: Same color as the color of the dwell indicator
- Sound when selecting: Yes
- External mouse/touch pauses eye tracking for 1.5 seconds: Yes
💡MIND EXPRESS TIP FOR EARLY STAGE USER!
3 analysis options:
- Logs to understand user's activity: Menu > Settings > Logs > Activate
- Then you can export the logs to see the full transcript of the user's actions
- Heat maps: You can include a button for "Heat Map ON/OFF" in each page set. When activated, this feature will display a map that visualizes the user's eye movements as soon as they navigate away from the page.
- Frequency analysis: Include a button with an action "Toggle Frequency Analysis ON/OFF" within the page sets that contain various cells. This feature will provide a visual representation of the areas where the user focuses their gaze most frequently.
- Yellow color - the least frequent points of attention
- Red color - the most frequent gaze focus
